How Membership Coins Work

By Shiloh · August 29, 2026

Coins are the currency, and they're flat

Every action that costs anything on The Porch Sale costs coins, and coins are always $0.25 each — no bulk discounts, no surprise fees. Posting a listing costs 1 coin. Placing a bid costs 1 coin. That's it. Buying something outright with Buy It Now doesn't cost a coin at all — only posting and bidding are billed.

Free tier: pay as you go

If you're not a member, you buy coins in packages whenever you need them:

  • 20 coins — $5.00
  • 60 coins — $15.00
  • 200 coins — $50.00

Notice the price per coin doesn't change no matter which package you buy — it's $0.25 flat either way. The packages are just convenience sizes, not discounts.

Membership: $15/mo, 300 coins included

Membership works out to $0.05 per coin — a fifth of what pay-as-you-go coins cost. 300 coins at $0.25 each would run you $75 bought loose; membership gets you the same 300 coins for $15.

The catch: coins reset monthly. Whatever you don't use by your renewal date doesn't roll over — it's a use-it-or-lose-it allowance, not a growing balance. That keeps the math simple (you always know exactly what you're working with each month), but it also means there's no benefit to hoarding coins across months.

Is membership worth it?

If you're occasionally posting or bidding — a handful of times a month — pay-as-you-go coins are simpler and you won't leave money on the table from unused coins expiring. But if you're active enough to burn through even a modest chunk of 300 coins most months, membership pays for itself many times over versus buying the same coins loose. There's no in-between tier to overthink — it's Free or Membership, one flat price either way.
