A Seller's Guide to Services Listings

By Shiloh · August 29, 2026

Not everything you sell is an object

The Services category is for anyone selling time, not a physical item — a haircut slot, a lawn mowing appointment, an hour of tutoring, a photography session, a detailing slot. If you'd normally book it, you can list it.

How it works

A Services listing is Buy It Now only — there's no bidding on a Tuesday at 2pm, it's either open or it's taken. One listing equals one slot equals one buyer. Whoever clicks Buy It Now first gets it, and the listing comes down automatically, the same way any Buy It Now item delists once it sells.

Listing a slot

Pick Services as your category when you post. The date and time aren't a separate field — they go right in your title and description, since a "slot" here is really just a very specific listing:

"Nail Appointment — Tuesday, Aug 25, 2:00pm — $25"

Set your price, post it, and it's live. There's no calendar system behind this yet, so you're responsible for keeping track of your own schedule and not posting the same slot twice or double-booking yourself. If you've got several open slots to offer, post each one as its own listing for now (a "duplicate this listing" shortcut to speed that up isn't built yet, but it's a reasonable ask if you find yourself doing it a lot).

Payment happens in person

The Porch Sale doesn't process payment for Services listings or hold any funds — that happens directly between you and the buyer when the appointment actually happens, however you'd normally handle it (cash, a payment app, whatever you already use). The platform's role stops at getting the slot in front of buyers and reserving it once it's bought.

A good way to fill dead time

If you're slow on a random Tuesday afternoon, posting a discounted slot for that exact window is a lot better than just losing the time entirely — that's the whole idea behind Services. Price it to move, and let The Porch Sale find you the buyer.
