Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 29, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how BidDown LLC ("we," "us"), the company behind The Porch Sale, collects, uses, and shares information when you use The Porch Sale marketplace.
Information we collect
Account information from Clerk (name, email, profile image) when you sign up; listings, bids, and purchases you create; your zip code, if you post a listing (used to show your listings to nearby buyers — see "Location data" below); payment and membership information processed by Stripe (we don't store your card details); and usage data such as pages viewed and actions taken on the platform.
Location data
If you post a listing, your zip code is saved to your account so nearby buyers can find it under "Near You." Your zip code is never shown publicly on a listing or your profile — it's used only for that matching. If you're browsing, entering a zip to see listings near you stores it only in a browser cookie on your device, not on your account — we don't know it unless you've also posted a listing yourself.
How we use it
To operate the marketplace: creating your account, posting listings, processing bids and Buy It Now purchases, processing coin and membership purchases, and maintaining marketplace security. We do not sell your personal information.
How we share your information
Other users can see information that's inherently public on the platform: your username and the listings and bids you make. We share information with the service providers listed below so they can perform services on our behalf, and may disclose information when required by law or to protect our or users' rights and safety. If BidDown LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
Service providers
We rely on Clerk for authentication, Supabase for data storage, Stripe for payments, and Vercel for hosting. Each processes data under its own privacy policy and security practices.
Cookies and analytics
The Porch Sale uses cookies required for authentication and session management (via Clerk), plus a first-party cookie that remembers the zip code you enter for "Near You" browsing (not tied to your identity or account, and never sent anywhere but back to us). We use Vercel Analytics to understand aggregate site usage — it's cookieless and doesn't collect or store any personal information; it just counts page views and referrers in aggregate. We don't use Google Analytics or any third-party advertising cookie.
Your privacy choices
You can request account deletion by contacting us below. We don't sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we don't use interest-based advertising on The Porch Sale. Some browsers let you send a "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control signal; we currently don't respond to Do Not Track, but if we ever do sell or share personal information as defined by state privacy law, we'll honor Global Privacy Control as a valid opt-out. Some information (like transaction records) may be retained as required by law.
State privacy rights
If you're a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Nevada, or Indiana, state privacy law may give you additional rights over your personal information: the right to know what we've collected, the right to access a copy of it, the right to correct inaccuracies, the right to delete it, and the right to opt out of its sale or use for targeted advertising or certain profiling. We don't sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising or profiling today, so most of these opt-out rights have nothing currently to opt out of, but you can still exercise your right to know, access, correct, or delete by contacting us below. California residents can also reach the Complaint Assistance Unit of the California Department of Consumer Affairs at 1625 N. Market Blvd. Suite N112, Sacramento, CA 95834, or (800) 952-5210. We may ask you to verify your identity (typically from the email on your account) before acting on a request, and reserve the right to decline a request where state law permits.
Data security and retention
We rely on our service providers' security practices (Clerk, Supabase, Stripe) and access controls to protect your information, though no online service can guarantee perfect security. We retain account and transaction information for as long as your account is active and as needed to comply with legal, tax, and dispute-resolution obligations after that.
Children's privacy
The Porch Sale requires users to be at least 18 (consistent with our Terms of Service) and is not directed at anyone younger. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we've collected information from a minor, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date.
